Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: How to Plan a Flight and Send the EFB Route to Avionics

Build the route in the EFB’s documented order, check the map, set payload and fuel, then send the plan to the aircraft and optionally file it with in-sim ATC.

PC

Select the aircraft and open Flight planning

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Select the aircraft first, then open the Electronic Flight Bag from the World Map. Choose its Flight planning tab to start entering the route. Microsoft’s procedure is specifically for the EFB in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. [1]

The same EFB can be accessed in the cockpit with the keyboard’s TAB key. The World Map procedure lets you prepare its route and aircraft details before loading into the airport. [1]

Steps

  1. Select the aircraft, open its EFB on the World Map and select Flight planning. [1]

Enter altitude, airports and departure in order

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Microsoft lists a specific input order: cruising altitude, departure airport, destination airport, alternate airport, departure runway and the departure procedure. Complete those entries before using Find Route, rather than expecting the route button to supply every airport and runway choice. [1]

Steps

  1. Set the cruising altitude and add the departure, destination and alternate airports. [1]
  2. Choose the departure runway and the appropriate departure. [1]

Generate the route and complete arrival selections

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

After the departure entries, use Find Route, then select the arrival runway, Arrival and Approach. The guide treats route generation and arrival selections as separate parts of the sequence. [1]

Automatic generation is a convenience, with an explicit accuracy limitation. Check that the resulting route is shown correctly on the map before sending it to other systems. [1]

Steps

  1. Select Find Route to generate the route. [1]
  2. Select the arrival runway, Arrival and Approach. [1]
  3. Review the generated route on the map and verify that it is the intended route. [1]

Set flight details, payload and fuel after checking the route

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Once the route is confirmed, fill out Flight Details, Payload and Fuel in the EFB. This is the documented point for those entries, following the route check and before the final transfer to the aircraft. [1]

Steps

  1. Complete Flight Details, Payload and Fuel for the planned flight. [1]

Send the route to avionics and file it with in-sim ATC

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Return to Flight Planning and select SEND ROUTE TO AVIONICS. The support guide says this prepares the flight plan, payload and fuel for the aircraft when you load into the airport. [1]

FILE PLAN WITH ATC is an additional action for flights using in-sim ATC. Sending the plan to avionics and filing with ATC are separate controls in Microsoft’s procedure. [1]

The same page can save the plan for a later flight or load one created previously. [1]

Steps

  1. Select SEND ROUTE TO AVIONICS when the route and aircraft details are ready. [1]
  2. If using in-sim ATC, also select FILE PLAN WITH ATC. [1]

Inspect airport weather and charts when reviewing the plan

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The information button beside an entered airport opens airport-specific details. [1]

General information contains the weather, runways and frequencies; Charts contains the airport, departure and arrival charts. These EFB views support reviewing the airport choices already made for the simulated flight. [1]

Steps

  1. Open the airport’s information button to review its weather, runways, frequencies and charts. [1]
