Hades II: How to Look for a Missing Save on Windows or Mac

Use Supergiant’s documented Slot 1 recovery sequence: locate the correct folder, identify the newest backup candidate, rename it and check the in-game Play menu.

PC

Leave Hades II running at the main menu

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Supergiant’s recovery procedure begins with the game running and the main menu open. It addresses unexpectedly missing save progress and says recovery may still be possible. It is a file-recovery attempt, with a final check in the Play menu; the publisher does not guarantee that every lost run has a recoverable copy. [1]

Steps

  1. Keep the game running with its main menu open before following the recovery sequence. [1]

Open the save folder for the computer’s operating system

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

On Windows, open %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Hades II\. On macOS, open ~/Library/Application Support/Supergiant Games/Hades II/. Choose the path matching the machine where the progress is missing. These are the two desktop locations specified directly in the recovery instructions. [1]

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Windows or macOS save location listed for your operating system. [1]

Sort by modification date and identify a Slot 1 candidate

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Sort the folder by Date modified. For Save Slot 1, the developer names Profile1_Temp.sav, Profile1_Temp.sav.bak and Profile1.sav.bak1 as possible recent candidates. Use the newest matching file rather than selecting an unrelated settings document. The published example assumes Slot 1, so these filenames should not be applied unchanged to a different slot. [1]

Steps

  1. For Slot 1, find the most recently modified file matching one of the three named backup or temporary-save filenames. [1]

Rename the selected file and check Play

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

The next instruction is to rename the selected candidate to Profile1.sav. Then open the in-game Play menu and look for the save. Treat that menu check as the result of the attempt; the support document supplies no evidence that renaming an absent or unrelated file can reconstruct progress. [1]

Steps

  1. Rename the selected Slot 1 candidate to Profile1.sav, then open Play and check whether the save appears. [1]

Prepare the matching log if recovery is unsuccessful

Supergiant’s final support route asks which platform you use and, where applicable, a Hades II.log file. On Windows that log is in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Hades II\; on macOS it is in the corresponding Supergiant Games/Hades II support folder. The Windows support request also asks for DxDiag, and the Mac request asks for System Information. [1]
