Guild Wars 2: How to Select and Control an Unlocked Mount

Choose a mount from the menu beside the Elite skill, mount up with the button or chosen hotkey, and configure individual mount bindings and movement skills.

Select an unlocked mount beside the skill bar

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Once a mount has been unlocked, open the mount menu to the right of the skill bar, next to the Elite skill. This guide begins with an unlocked mount and explains selecting and using it; it does not treat buying a cosmetic skin as the unlock process. [1]

Press the small arrow to open the list and choose from the mounts already unlocked on the account. [1]

Steps

  1. Open the small arrow beside the mount button and select an unlocked mount. [1]

Use the mount button or selected hotkey

After selecting the active mount, click its button or press the associated hotkey chosen in the in-game settings. The support instructions describe both methods, so a custom hotkey does not need to be replaced by an assumed universal keyboard mapping to follow this process. [1]

Steps

  1. Click the selected mount’s button or press its configured mount hotkey. [1]

Set individual hotkeys for different mounts

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Open the in-game settings menu to configure hotkeys for individual mounts. [1]

Assign individual bindings when you want faster access to different unlocked mounts. These bindings are the publisher’s alternative to returning to the selection list every time; they do not unlock a mount that the account has not acquired. [1]

Steps

  1. Set the desired individual-mount hotkeys in the in-game settings. [1]

Use the mounted skill bar for movement and engagement

Mounting replaces the skill bar with mount-specific skills. Read that bar for the selected mount rather than expecting the character’s ordinary weapon-skill layout to remain active. [1]

The support guide says Space typically activates the movement ability, such as the Raptor’s long jump or the Skimmer’s hover. The first hotkey is the combat or engage skill. Preserve that “typically” qualification when applying the instructions to different mounts or customized bindings. [1]

Some mounts also have additional skills whose hotkeys can be assigned in settings. [1]

Apply cosmetics separately from the mount unlock

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

A purchased Mount Skin does not itself unlock the mount. [1]

The publisher notes that skins can be acquired for mounts that are not yet unlocked. Keep the cosmetic selection separate from the underlying mount availability when deciding which unlocked mount to select from the menu. [1]
