Choose Gold Rush and set the gold target in House Rules
Gold Rush is the developer’s multiplayer-only competitive adventure in the Midnight Woods. Its standard objective is being first to deliver 100 gold coins to the hidden vault. Before playing, use the House Rules gold slider if you want a different race length. Treat 100 as the stated standard target, rather than assuming a customized match always ends at that amount. The mode uses a small, landlocked world with no side quests. The target is configurable before the race. The map is small and landlocked. [1]
Steps
- Use the House Rules gold slider to choose the amount that must be collected for this race. [1]
Compete through shared combat and resource choices
The mode does not introduce direct attacks on other players. The developer instead recommends manipulating the cooperative systems: draw other characters into a fight and run away, pull the party into a dungeon from across the map, or buy an item before another player can obtain it. These are competitive choices within Gold Rush’s stated design. Your objective remains delivering the required coins to the vault, so a fight or purchase should be judged by how it changes that race. The developer gives these specific competitive examples. [1]
Use turn timing to compete for the first coin pickup
One documented tactic is passing a combat turn to arrange the killing blow, which grants the first grab at Gold Coins. Use that rule when deciding between an immediate action and waiting for a finishing opportunity. The release note presents this as a tactic rather than a guaranteed win: other players are also making choices, and you still need to complete the delivery objective. [1]
Steps
- Consider passing a combat turn when it creates a killing-blow opportunity and the first grab at Gold Coins. [1]
Account for unlimited lives and the missing Safety Stone
Gold Rush supplies unlimited lives, making death a temporary setback. It deliberately excludes the Safety Stone, so do not plan your vault return around that item’s instant town teleportation. Winning grants a random cosmetic Lore unlock from Midnight Helmet, Midnight Backpack or Midnight Clothes. The reward is random among those three, rather than a promise of a particular item or a measured Lore-per-minute farming route. The Safety Stone is deliberately absent from Gold Rush. The winner receives one of the three named cosmetics. [1]
