Reach ten hearts with the character you are dating

Marriage progression uses the ten-heart relationship cap added in 1.0. The Engagement Ring recipe is tied to reaching ten hearts with an NPC you are already dating, rather than reaching ten hearts with any villager. Check both parts of that condition before looking for the recipe. [1]

1. Use dates to build the relationship: the updated dating tutorial explains that dates grant more Heart Points than gifting. [2]
2. For Date Inspiration items, the 1.0.7 notes say that dating an NPC is sufficient; you no longer need to have unlocked an earlier date first. [2]

Receive and learn Elsie’s Engagement Ring recipe

The recipe arrives from Elsie the morning after reaching heart level ten. It is a next-morning delivery, so reaching the heart threshold and immediately inspecting a Forge are different stages of the process. [1]

Steps

1. When Elsie delivers the recipe, use its scroll to unlock crafting. [1]
2. Craft the unlocked Engagement Ring at a Forge. Use the learned recipe’s displayed requirements; the announcement does not supply an ingredient list to substitute for the game’s recipe. [1]

View the proposal event before committing

The developer explicitly allows viewing proposal events and collecting their special items before deciding to propose. Seeing an event is therefore not automatically the same as confirming an engagement. [1]

Steps

1. Use the Engagement Ring to retrigger a ten-heart event if you have not yet chosen to propose. When ready, choose the proposal and engagement option within that progression. [1]

Choose what happens to other dating relationships

There are two different engagement options. One hides break-up letters and related lines; the other disables the actual Dating-to-Best-Friends status change. Decide which result you want before confirming the engagement. [1]

1. To preserve other dating relationships, use the setting that disables the status change itself. [1]
2. Toggle that setting before confirming engagement. Changing it afterward is not the documented way to prevent the already-triggered change. [1]

Plan the wedding with your fiance

After engagement, wedding-planning dialogue with your fiance customizes elements including flower colour, cake flavour and the reception meal. Use those conversations in the days leading up to the wedding to make your choices. [1]

The optional family-planning route comes later: a Mystical Feather becomes available through a cutscene in the weeks after marriage. It is a later stage rather than a prerequisite for proposing. [1]
