Steps

1. Open My Team > Players and select the player to develop. Konami notes that some Player Types are excluded from further development. [1]

Level the player to earn Progression Points

Steps

1. Use the player in matches or spend Exp. Tokens to gain experience and levels. Leveling supplies Progression Points for Player Progression. [1]
2. Open Player Progression and choose Auto Development for points to be allocated toward maximum Overall Rating as the player levels. Choose Manual Development to distribute them yourself. [1]

Reset a distribution or use Recommended

The overview says Progression Points can be reset at any time. If you want help assigning them manually, Recommended distributes them automatically. Skill Training is a separate process: it uses Random Skill Tokens and Select Skill Tokens to add up to five Additional Skills, so it is distinct from spending Progression Points on player stats. [1]
