DREDGE: How to Enable Passive Mode and Reduce Camera Motion

Turn on Passive Mode, adjust boat-follow behaviour and disable Haste’s screen effects without confusing these separate settings.

PC

Enable Passive Mode from Settings

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Passive Mode can be activated at any stage through Settings. It is an in-game option rather than a different purchased edition or a mode that must be chosen before starting a save. [1]

The developer describes the mode as removing the fear of the creatures of the deep. That is the stated purpose; the announcement does not promise removal of every resource constraint or every possible source of damage. [1]

Steps

  1. Open Settings and select Passive Mode when you want that creature-related change. [1]

Stop the camera automatically turning with the boat

Camera Follow Mode is a separate adjustment. Detaching the camera means it does not automatically turn toward the boat’s new heading every time the boat turns. Passive Mode alone does not describe a change to camera movement. [1]

Steps

  1. Use Camera Follow Mode to detach the camera if you prefer controlling the view independently of the boat’s turn. [1]

Disable Haste’s field-of-view pull and screen shake

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Haste has its own visual-effects setting. Disabling Haste VFX removes the ability’s field-of-view pull and screen shake. This is a visual setting; the patch notes do not say it removes Haste’s gameplay costs or changes its underlying function. [1]

Steps

  1. Disable Haste VFX if the unwanted motion happens specifically when activating Haste. [1]

Check whether the game pauses when it loses focus

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Pause In Background controls another separate behaviour. The update changes the default so the game does not pause when it loses focus. Inspect this option if you expect switching to another window to stop play; creature behaviour and camera settings do not establish a background pause. [1]

Tune spyglass movement independently

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Spyglass sensitivity has separate horizontal and vertical sliders. Use these when the uncomfortable movement occurs while moving the spyglass view, rather than repeatedly changing Passive Mode, which targets a different part of the experience. [1]
