How to Check Destiny 2 Cross Save Characters and Fix a Wrong Account Selection

Use the Cross Save setup page and linked-account identifiers to determine which character set is active before changing it.

Check the active set before changing anything

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Destiny 2 Cross Save exposes one chosen character set across connected accounts. Characters from other platforms stay dormant while that setup is active, so this is not a character-merging service. [1]

Steps

  1. Open the Cross Save setup page and check the active account platform and characters displayed at the top. [1]
  2. Check Settings > Accounts & Linking on your Bungie.net profile to confirm which platform accounts are linked. [1]

Compare the actual Steam ID

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Steam profile names are not unique. Bungie directs Steam players to compare Steam ID numbers instead when troubleshooting the linked login. [1]

Steps

  1. Open Steam Account Details and compare the ID at the top with the Steam account linked in the Cross Save setup. [1]

Limits & applicability

  • If the active character set is wrong, Bungie’s documented correction requires disabling Cross Save and waiting 90 days before re-enabling with the correct account. Silver added within the last 90 days can also prevent deactivation. [1]
  • Silver purchases or additions block disabling Cross Save until 90 days have elapsed. [1]

Understand the character set before deactivating Cross Save

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Cross Save exposes a single selected set of characters across connected accounts. Other character sets remain dormant while it is enabled. Bungie states that they are not deleted, but cannot be accessed until Cross Save is disabled. If the wrong characters appear, compare the selected active set and the login account before taking that disruptive step. [1]

Limits & applicability

  • Cross Save does not permanently transfer characters into another platform account or merge characters from separate accounts. The active selection is the shared set, not a combined roster. [1]

Check entitlements separately from character visibility

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

A correct character set does not prove that every entitlement is owned on the current platform. Bungie states that DLC licenses do not transfer with Cross Save. Items or abilities dependent on DLC ownership can therefore be inaccessible on a platform where that DLC is not owned, even though the expected character is present. [1]

Limits & applicability

  • Season Passes follow a different rule: they bind to the first Destiny account used after purchase. Bungie says those passes cannot be transferred between character sets. Check the account before accepting the Cross Save confirmation following a purchase. [1]

Resolve login failures before changing the setup

Platforms: PCEvidence checked

Every linked platform account must authenticate before Cross Save can be enabled or disabled. If browser authentication fails, Bungie recommends trying a private window, another browser or the official Destiny Companion app. A platform account that cannot be accessed needs the platform’s account-recovery support rather than a new character on an unrelated account. [1]

Steps

  1. Retry authentication in a private browser window, another browser or the official Destiny Companion app. [1]

Limits & applicability

  • Bungie cannot modify or remove linked platform accounts on behalf of a player. An inaccessible linked account must be recovered with its platform support. [1]
