Choose the host and guest

Cooperative play takes place in the host’s world. The player being summoned is the guest; the player summoning is the host. FromSoftware’s Windows manual supplies the sign, Ember and password procedure used here. [1]

Steps

  1. The host uses an Ember to gain the required power of flame. [1]

Set the same cooperative password

Steps

  1. On both players’ games, open Top Menu, System, Network Settings and set the same password. The manual says this password works for cooperative play only. [1]

Write and inspect the summon sign

Steps

  1. The guest uses the White Sign Soapstone to write a summon sign. [1]
  2. The host examines that sign to summon the guest, then the two play together in the host’s world. Normally the host can summon two co-op guests; a Dried Finger permits up to three. [1]

Recognize the documented end of a session

The guest returns to their own world when the area boss dies, the host or that guest dies, the host connection drops, or either uses the Black Separation Crystal. Those end conditions explain why a successful boss fight or a death can separate the group. [1]
