Choose legacy for an existing campaign

The September 15 Update 1.5.0 notes offer the legacy Steam branch for players who want to finish a save under a previous version. The same notes say some new effects need a new game. Select the branch for the version you intend to continue playing rather than expecting every new feature to appear in an old campaign. [1]

Open the game’s Betas settings

  1. Right-click Sid Meier’s Civilization VII in your Steam library and select Properties. [1]
  2. Open Betas and select the legacy option. [1]

Keep the branch’s purpose in view

This option is documented as a way to finish an existing save on a previous version. For the best experience with the new update, Firaxis instead recommends starting a new game.
