Use the revised carry-over rules for a newly Ascended save
When you Ascend a save and start again under the revised True Torment rules, you keep weapons, including Mea Culpa, along with Figures, Prayers and Rosary Beads with minimal exceptions. A small number of other items also remain. Use those named categories to plan the next run. The announcement does not say every quest item or movement ability transfers, so the general carry-over promise should not be expanded into a complete inventory checklist. [1]
Steps
- Before Ascending, decide whether you want the revised equipment carry-over or the separate Ultimate Torment challenge. [1]
Select Ultimate Torment only if you want its removal rules
Ultimate Torment is selectable when you Ascend. It removes your weapons, Figures, Prayers and Rosary Beads, reproducing the earlier default behavior. This challenge cannot be turned off midway through the campaign, so make the choice before committing to that Ascension. Leaving it out is the relevant choice when your purpose is carrying those equipment categories into the new run. It is a persistent run rule rather than a temporary difficulty setting you can freely reverse later. [1]
Steps
- If you want to retain the listed equipment, do not select Ultimate Torment when Ascending. [1]
Check whether this save was already Ascended before the change
The revised carry-over applies to saves Ascended after the Balance and True Torment update. Already Ascended saves instead receive Ultimate Torment automatically. That distinction explains why an existing Ascended campaign can have different inventory rules from a fresh Ascension under the newer system. Check which situation describes the file you intend to continue; the update does not promise to retroactively return the removed categories to every older Ascended run. [1]
Review the file choice and expect rebalanced Ascended encounters
The same update adds file-selection options when Ascending to reduce accidental save-data deletion. Review the selected file as part of the Ascension decision. The developer also rebalances enemies, bosses and individual challenges for Ascended saves to accompany the changed rules. Keeping equipment therefore does not mean the next campaign repeats the original enemy balance unchanged. [1]
