Start with the in-game mod.io manager
The developer SDK documentation identifies the in-game manager as the preferred installation route. Open Mods from the Main Menu and install through that manager. It uses mod.io-hosted mods, and lets you disable, uninstall and unsubscribe in the game. This keeps the ordinary browse-and-install workflow inside Blade & Sorcery; it also gives you a way to remove a manager-installed mod without manually moving folders. The manager exposes removal and subscription controls. [1]
Steps
- Open Main Menu → Mods and use the in-game manager for a mod.io installation. [1]
Use the same mod.io account for website subscriptions
You can also subscribe to mods on the mod.io website. Create an account and log into mod.io within Blade & Sorcery: the documentation says the game then downloads the mods from that subscribed list automatically. This is an alternative way to choose what the manager installs, so check that you have logged in rather than expecting a website subscription alone to move files into an unidentified game account. [1]
For a manual Steam installation, extract into StreamingAssets/Mods
For the Steam PCVR manual route, download the mod from mod.io or Nexus. Open the game installation and find BladeAndSorcery_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods. The default Steam location is C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Blade & Sorcery/BladeAndSorcery_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods. Extract the mod folder from its archive into Mods itself; check that the mod folder is directly inside Mods rather than an extra enclosing subfolder. The documented path is an installation-folder path, so use the corresponding game location if your Steam library is on another drive. The default path and folder-placement instruction are stated together. [1]
Steps
- Put the extracted mod folder directly under StreamingAssets/Mods and check for an accidental extra folder level. [1]
Check the mod’s supported game version after an update
A correctly placed folder does not make an incompatible mod usable. The documentation says most mods can become obsolete after a major game update until their authors update them, and abandoned mods may remain unusable. Check the mod’s supported Blade & Sorcery version before retrying the installation. For manager-installed mods from the previous version, the game automatically updates them if their author has supplied an update; otherwise it disables them. The documented manager behavior depends on the mod author supplying an update. An abandoned mod may remain incompatible. [1]
Distinguish a manager access error from a missing or incompatible mod
If the manager itself fails with the specific “failed to obtain terms of use” error from 1.3.1, the documented remedy is the 1.3.1.2 hotfix. That failure happens before a normal installation can proceed, so distinguish it from a manually misplaced folder or a mod that has not been updated. The announcement separately says a blank mod list still needed further plugin work, so do not repeatedly move working mod folders on the assumption that the access hotfix resolved every manager symptom. Blank lists were identified as remaining work. [2]
