Besiege: How to Connect Fuel Barrels, Boosters and Fuel Controls

Build a shared fuel network in The Broken Beyond, separate propulsion from weapons, and monitor or transfer its remaining fuel.

The Broken Beyond adds fuel-storage and distribution blocks for spacecraft and other machines. Its fuel system powers Boosters and Blasters and extends the existing Flamethrower’s supply. Start by deciding which consumers should share a reservoir. Small Fuel Barrels hold 10 fuel and Large Fuel Barrels hold 100; storage becomes lighter as fuel is used. [1]

Steps

  1. Place the barrels and fuel-consuming blocks adjacent to one another when you want them to share one reservoir. Adjacent compatible blocks connect into a network automatically. [1]

Connect separated blocks with Fuel Hoses

A Fuel Hose links fuel storage or consumers that do not use direct adjacency. Its default behavior allows flow between connected blocks. The Parameter Tool also exposes key controls for starting and stopping that flow, which is useful when a reserve should not feed a consumer continuously. [1]

Steps

  1. Connect the separate fuel blocks with a Fuel Hose. If you want manual flow control, configure its start/stop keys through the Parameter Tool. [1]

Keep weapon fuel separate when required

Boosters and fuel-fed weapons can draw from the same reserve. The developer warns that low fuel can then let propulsion drain the supply intended as weapon ammunition. Separate networks are a design option for preventing that competition. This does not require every ship to use a particular barrel count or layout. [2]

Steps

  1. Use separate fuel networks for propulsion and fuel-consuming weapons when preserving weapon supply matters more than sharing the full reserve. [2]

Monitor fuel and connect networks on demand

The Fuel Gauge shows the connected network’s remaining fuel and can emulate a key at a chosen fuel level. A Fuel Coupler is the separate option for connecting or disconnecting networks during play. On separation it applies a configurable pushing force, so its behavior is more than a visual connection indicator. [1]

Steps

  1. Add a Fuel Gauge to the network and configure the fuel-level condition if you want it to trigger a key. Use a Fuel Coupler where the networks need a key-controlled connection and separation. [1]

Use V1.91 pumping for controlled transfers

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

V1.91 adds the Fuel Pump. It transfers fuel between separate storage systems and can maintain a chosen fuel level automatically. The update also lets a slowly fed Booster limit its thrust according to available fuel. Use that documented behavior for controlled supply rather than assuming that every powered Booster always delivers full thrust. [3]

Limits & applicability

  • Fuel capacity is only one design constraint. Larger barrels provide a better mass-to-fuel ratio, while small barrels can pack more fuel into the same space. Adding storage also adds mass that the ship must lift. [2]
