Backpack Hero: How to Research New Equipment in Haversack Hill

Choose the research building for the equipment you want, distinguish research from selling loot, and use the Town Hall to manage the buildings together.

Use dungeon loot for the town’s next goal

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Haversack Hill’s Story Mode progression gives dungeon loot two different jobs. It can be sold for town resources or used to unlock further equipment through research buildings. Decide which unlock you are pursuing before choosing what to sell. The developer’s town guide says the equipment used in research comes from the dungeon. [1]

Steps

  1. Choose the equipment category you want to unlock, then take the relevant dungeon items to its research building rather than treating every returned item only as sale stock. [1]

Use the weapons and armor buildings

Research is divided by equipment type. The Barracks handles weapons, the Blacksmith handles armor and shields, and the Fletcher handles bows and arrows. A visit to the wrong building therefore does not establish that the desired equipment category is unavailable. Follow the category first, then review the unlocks that building offers. [1]

Steps

  1. Use the Barracks for weapons, the Blacksmith for armor or shields, or the Fletcher for bows and arrows. [1]

Research consumables, relics and magic in their own buildings

The Tavern researches consumables. The Library unlocks relics, while Magical Mycelium covers magic items. These are separate parts of the same town research loop. Matching the building to the desired item family is the useful first check when planning what the next dungeon run should bring back. [1]

Steps

  1. Visit the Tavern for consumables, Library for relics or Magical Mycelium for magic-item research. [1]

Distinguish the Store and Bank from research

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

The Store exchanges loot for all three resource types. The developer says larger and rarer items are worth more. The Bank is a different selling destination, exchanging items for Treasure. Those resource transactions are distinct from spending the appropriate dungeon finds on research unlocks. [1]

Steps

  1. Use the Store when the goal is general town resources, or the Bank when the goal is Treasure. [1]

Use the Town Hall after the research network grows

Research also covers town decorations through the Greenhouse and quests through the Bounty Board. Once the Town Hall is built, it provides access to all research buildings from one place. That central access saves repeated trips while you compare several categories; it does not turn the selling buildings into item research. [1]

Steps

  1. After building the Town Hall, use it to access the town’s research buildings together. Build the Bounty Board if researching new quests is the intended goal. [1]
