Open Photo Mode from the pause menu
Avorion’s 2.5 feature documentation places Photo Mode in the pause menu and also adds a configurable Photo Mode key binding. The release announcement confirms that Photo Mode and secondary block colors shipped to everyone with 2.5. The procedure here uses those documented tools, without requiring a specific scene or star system. [1]
Steps
- Pause the game and select Photo Mode. If you prefer a shortcut, look for the Photo Mode key-binding option rather than assuming a particular default key. [1]
Choose the background and sector lighting
Photo Mode can change the sector style and adjust the sun and planet positions, sector color and star density. This lets you stage the background around the ship instead of travelling to find a matching sector. The developer also documents optional Rift visuals for a different atmosphere. [2]
Steps
- Choose a random sector style or enter an explicit style ID, then adjust the visible background settings to suit the ship. The style ID can be shared with another player. [1]
Frame the ship and choose finishing effects
Use the Field of View control to change the framing. The documented filters include greyscale, sepia, desaturated and saturated, plus a scalable vignette. These are presentation settings; pick the effect that makes the ship’s form and colors easiest to see before taking the final image. [1]
Steps
- Adjust framing, then apply a filter or vignette only if it helps the intended image. Use the Rift-visual option if that is the background style you want. [2]
Take the image and open its folder
The Take Screenshot button creates the image without UI. A brief white flash indicates that the screenshot is being saved. The nearby Open Screenshot Folder button is the documented way to find that output, so you do not need to guess an operating-system path. [1]
Steps
- Use Take Screenshot, wait for the save indication, then select Open Screenshot Folder to locate the captured image. [1]
Understand which ship colors the photo shows
The same 2.5 update lets a block’s secondary color alter its pattern or glow independently of the main color. Engine glow and thruster flames can be recolored through that system. If the ship’s actual color treatment needs changing, that is a build-color choice rather than merely a Photo Mode filter. [2]
