Arma 3: How to Customize and Test Vehicles in the Virtual Garage

Choose a vehicle, change its skin and supported parts, then export and test the configuration using the developer’s Virtual Garage workflow.

Choose a vehicle in the Arsenal

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Open Arma 3, run the Arsenal and select the vehicle you want to inspect. The developer identifies the Virtual Garage component of Virtual Arsenal as the convenient place to see the available vehicle customization options. Begin with the actual vehicle you want to configure, since the selection determines which options are available. [1]

Use the Virtual Garage to inspect those choices before exporting or testing the vehicle. [1]

Steps

  1. Run the Arsenal and choose the vehicle to customize. [1]

Choose one of the vehicle’s available skins

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

Use the vehicle’s customization menu to choose its visual skin from the available premade textures. The developer describes this as changing the vehicle’s visual style. The menu is supplied for most vehicles, so the documentation should not be read as a promise that every vehicle exposes an identical set of options. [1]

Look at the options exposed by the selected vehicle rather than expecting a universal list shared by every model. [1]

Steps

  1. Change the selected vehicle’s skin in its customization menu. [1]

Choose the additional parts offered for that model

The same menu can add supported parts. The developer’s examples include helicopter benches, motorboat beacons and bags on an off-road pickup. Use the options available for the selected model; the examples describe different vehicles rather than all three attachments being available on every vehicle. [1]

Steps

  1. Choose the additional supported parts offered by the selected vehicle. [1]

Export and test the configured vehicle

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

After choosing the vehicle and customizing it, use the documented Export and Test workflow to inspect the result. The developer lists these alongside Customize as the Virtual Garage process. This article does not invent an editor paste location or claim that exporting automatically replaces every vehicle in an existing scenario. [1]

Steps

  1. Use Export and Test after customizing the vehicle. [1]

Use the documented reset example for scenario configuration

Platforms: PCUpdated Evidence checked

For scenario creators using the customization function, the developer supplies this reset expression: result = [this, true, true] call bis_fnc_initVehicle; It restores default texture and animation sources together. This is the documented scripting example, separate from choosing a premade skin through the Garage menu. [1]

The function returns true for success and false otherwise. Use that return value when inspecting a scripted configuration operation. [1]
