Animal Well: How to Use Native DualSense Haptics

Check Steam Input, the native controller label and Windows’ audio output using the developer’s documented guidance.

Use the native DualSense input route

Animal Well’s developer identifies native DualSense input separately from Steam Input. In his support reply, he says the game’s DualSense haptics will not work with Steam Input enabled. These instructions concern the PC game and its native controller features. [1]

Steps

  1. Disable Steam Input for Animal Well when using the game’s native DualSense haptics. The developer names Steam Input being enabled as a condition that prevents those haptics. [1]
  2. Open the game’s options menu and check the controller status at the bottom. Basso says it should display “PS DUALSENSE - NATIVE.” [1]

Check the audio device after reconnecting the controller

If native input is selected but the haptics or controller speaker are missing, check whether Windows changed its default audio output to the controller speaker when the controller was unplugged or reconnected. This is the specific Windows behaviour the developer describes; it is a useful check before assuming that a game update removed support. [1]

Understand the separate multi-gamepad change

Animal Well’s October 22 input update accepts input from all connected gamepads regardless of player index. That change concerns which connected gamepads can provide input; the native DualSense haptics requirement remains the separate condition described in the developer’s support reply. [2] [1]
