Quick Facts

  • Release Date: November 12, 2026
  • Platforms: PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store)
  • Developer: Another Angle Games
  • Publisher: Owlcat Games
  • Demo: Free playable demo currently available on Steam

Setting and Gameplay Details

The tactical RPG is set in an alternate version of Japan in 1868 during the final years of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Emperor Mutsuhito's forces hold a technological advantage supported by the fictional British East Nippon Company, while magic, yokai, and massive steam-powered machines complicate the conflict.

Players follow a mismatched party consisting of ex-samurai, Shogunate retainers, a mysterious child, his mother, and their bodyguard. Battles feature human opponents like bandits and imperial soldiers alongside supernatural threats. Characters can upgrade skills, combine attacks, and leverage the environment during combat.

Combat also includes a limited yokai transformation mechanic for fights that go poorly, rather than a constant on-demand ability. Additionally, relationships between party members affect both the story and combat encounters, meaning choices can strengthen friendships, break existing bonds, and alter individual character progression.

Studio Background and Demo Availability

Another Angle Games features developers who previously worked on The Witcher, Outriders, and Ghostrunner. Owlcat Games serves as publisher, expanding its external publishing portfolio alongside projects like Emotion Spark Studio's Rue Valley.

PC players looking to test the game ahead of the November launch can download the free demo on Steam, which originally dropped in July 2025 and includes specific tea house and manor sections, three regular combat encounters, and a boss battle.
