A live-action Persona TV show is officially in development at Netflix. The streamer has begun work on an adaptation of the acclaimed RPG franchise from Sega and Atlus, according to a report from Variety.

Christopher Monfette, an alum of Star Trek: Picard and 9-1-1, is attached to the project. He will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series. Beyond Monfette’s involvement, the production boasts a team with significant experience in both television and video game adaptations. Executive producers include Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps, as well as Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson of Story Kitchen. Sega producer Toru Nakahara is also attached as an executive producer.

Development and Source Material

With the franchise dating back to its 1996 inception, the production team has a deep catalog of material to draw from. The series encompasses five mainline games, numerous spin-offs, and various remakes. While the show is currently in the early stages of development, it remains unconfirmed whether the plot will mirror a specific game—such as Persona 5, which introduced the Phantom Thieves in 2016 and expanded via Persona 5 Royal in 2024—or if it will forge a new narrative path.

Netflix has refrained from commenting on the project, and details regarding casting or a potential release date have not been announced.

Proven Production Partners

The collaboration brings together companies with established track records in the streaming and film industries. 21 Laps is well known for its work on the Netflix hit Stranger Things, as well as The Perfect Couple and Last Man Standing. On the film side, the company recently worked on Deadpool & Wolverine.

Story Kitchen is similarly focused on the intersection of gaming and film. The group previously backed the Sonic the Hedgehog film series and has several other projects in various stages of development, including adaptations based on Sifu, It Takes Two, Just Cause, and Life is Strange.

As fans await further news on the Persona adaptation, the franchise continues to maintain momentum. Following years of anticipation, Persona 6 was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month, and Persona 4 Revival is currently slated for a February 2027 release.
